Turning sixteen
What
just happened?
When natural
powers
Wrench
you apart
And rip open
the scars
Of
life-bearing love.
Oceans
crack and rage.
Relentless
waves bring up
Forgotten
debris
That
cuts and bruises.
You’re
borne into the storm.
Resistance
to change
Wrestles
hopelessly
With the
tidal pull
Towards
life, death and rebirth.
A
difficult labour,
Pushing,
heaving, sweating.
A surge
of pain and pride
As childhood
is discarded
And adult
emerges.
Tears of
loss and joy,
Celebrating
what was,
What is
and what will be.
